MOVING FORWARD

Dear Friends,
We hope you were able to attend our annual meeting held via Zoom in late June. It was an enriching and informative meeting in a format that many of us have become accustomed to this year! We are very grateful that Sue Holzberlein, C.S., flexed with the ever-changing schedule and format in order to share a most uplifting metaphysical talk. The inspired report of our Christian Science Nurse, Paula Brensinger, as well as the other reports given, will be shared in later mailings.

As you may be aware, traditional meetings and gatherings are not the only things to have changed for our visiting Christian Science Nurse Service this year. Due to government-imposed restrictions, our collaboration with Tallwood House was suspended in March. This meant that patients needing visits on weekends could no longer go to Tallwood House for outpatient care as had become the norm in recent years; nor could a Christian Science nurse from Tallwood go out into the field and back to provide nursing care. Thus Paula began a schedule of making home visits seven days per week all over the state of New Hampshire and occasionally into Maine, Vermont and Massachusetts. This has continued as the months have rolled by with only sporadic relief for our dear, dedicated Christian Science nurse, Paula Brensinger.

These challenges in no way mean that you should not call the Christian Science Nurse Service of New Hampshire if you or a loved one need Christian Science nursing care! This Service is a practical expression of divine Love in action and “Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need.” (SH p494:10) We are all immensely grateful to Sally Carruth, who has stepped in to relieve Paula as often as she could, and to Arta Stewart, who also made some home visits during her personal time to lighten Paula’s schedule.

The Board has taken steps to engage private duty Christian Science nurses outside of New Hampshire who can be hired on a contractual basis for various periods of time. As you might imagine, these individuals are in high demand given the current circumstances throughout the country, so we are most grateful to have been able to provide coverage for Paula to take two consecutive days off here and there, to have enjoyed one 3-day weekend, and just recently, a 2-week vacation. We continue to actively seek another Christian Science nurse as a regular employee to work alongside Paula. In addition to the obvious benefit of a more balanced work schedule, it would also be more cost-effective to hire an employee rather than a per- hour or per-day contractual Christian Science nurse. So, if you know of anyone who would like to expand their Christian Science nursing ministry into our New Hampshire field, please send them our way!

The work of a Christian Science nurse is governed and sustained by the infinite One, as we are assured with these words from our textbook: “Having faith in the divine Principle of health and spiritually understanding God, sustains man under all circumstances;” (SH p319:7) Paula, our Christian Science nurse, has witnessed several healings this year, which inspire and strengthen her work and have blessed our field as well; for as Mrs. Eddy reminds us in Science and Health (p206:15): “In the scientific relation of God to man, we find that whatever blesses one blesses all, –“.

Now, more than ever, the need for the availability to receive Christian Science nursing care at home is great, and we thank you for your support and contributions to this work in whatever form they take.
